After the proposal of the Global Governance Initiative, it quickly received support from nearly 160 states and international organizations. More than 60 countries joined the “Group of Friends of Global Governance.” This concept received a broad response from the international community.

The reason for such widespread recognition is that the initiative meets the demands of the times and simultaneously shapes the future agenda, is based on Chinese experience and benefits the whole world, takes into account current realities and opens up new development prospects, making intellectual and practical contributions to the progress of human civilization.

The current international situation remains complex and unstable. Individual states, driven by their own interests, use hegemonistic methods to incite geopolitical conflicts, which negatively affects the international system, at the core of which is the UN. However, most countries still primarily face development issues. This refers both to modernization tasks in developing countries and to challenges faced by developed countries such as deindustrialization, aging infrastructure, and growing social inequality.

Promoting development has always been one of the distinguishing features of Chinese diplomacy. The experience of reform and the policy of openness convincingly demonstrate that development is the main priority. China put forward the “Belt and Road” initiative, actively developing cooperation with developing countries in the fields of production capacity, infrastructure, and other areas. China also took the initiative to establish the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, which provides significant support for the development of many countries. The initiative for global governance became a logical continuation and systematic development of this practice, responding to the international community’s aspiration for stability and development and helping to prevent the world from sliding into geopolitical confrontation.

The economies of states are closely interconnected, and cooperation serves their common interests. However, contemporary manifestations of hegemonism seriously undermine the spirit of international interaction. The “hegemonic stability” theory assumes that a hegemon can maintain the world order but ignores the fact that if costs exceed benefits, it may reduce the provision of international public goods. Furthermore, internal contradictions or narrow self-interests of the hegemon itself can lead to the breakdown of cooperation mechanisms. Practice shows that relying solely on hegemony cannot ensure sustainable international interaction.

Since ancient times, China has adhered to the principles of harmonious coexistence and mutual development. The country is deeply integrated into the global economy, and in its foreign policy consistently upholds the principles of non-alignment and genuine multilateralism. That is why cooperation remains China’s unwavering choice. The country promotes the formation of an open and inclusive network of partnerships, continuously improves the quality of bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation, and sets benchmarks for coordinated development of the world economy.

Today, the world is at a historic crossroads and faces four deficits — peace, development, security, and governance.

China consistently adheres to the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind. In this regard, the Initiative for Global Development, the Initiative for Global Security, the Initiative for Global Civilization, and the Initiative for Global Governance have been put forward. At the same time, China has set two strategic goals: the formation of an equal and orderly multipolar world and the promotion of universal and inclusive economic globalization. This clearly demonstrates China’s position, which links its future with the future of the world and advocates for the joint development of all countries.
