Beijing, June 17 /Xinhua/ — The Office of the State Council of the PRC for the elimination of earthquake aftermath and the Ministry of Emergency Management of the PRC have activated the Level IV emergency response mode following an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 that occurred on Tuesday in Qin’ai Province /Northwest China/.
A working group was sent to the province of Qinghai to coordinate emergency response actions and provide assistance to the victims, the ministry reported.
As of 18:40 on Tuesday, it was confirmed that one person died and four others were injured as a result of the earthquake. The earthquake occurred at 17:06 in the Kham-Mongol-Tibetan autonomous district of Qinghai province, with the hypocenter located at a depth of 10 km.
The Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, in connection with the earthquake, issued an order to strengthen coordination and the operational deployment of rescue teams to the affected areas, calling to make every effort to search and rescue people who may be trapped under debris, deliver humanitarian aid, resettle affected residents, and thoroughly monitor seismic activity.
As became known, China’s Integrated Fire Rescue Forces sent 320 rescuers, 78 units of equipment, and 10 specially trained dogs to the site of the incident for search and rescue operations.
