Xining, June 17 /Xin Hua/ — As of 11:00 PM Tuesday, one person died and eight others were injured as a result of a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province /Northwest China/.

According to data from the local headquarters for rescue and liquidation of earthquake consequences, those affected have left the hospital after receiving medical assistance.

Thousands of residents, students, and teachers of local primary and secondary schools and kindergartens were evacuated to five temporary accommodation points where they were provided with everything necessary.

Local picturesque areas were closed, and tourists were relocated to neighboring cities.

As of today, central and local authorities have sent humanitarian aid to the affected areas; more than 1,000 rescuers are working on site and about 200 units of equipment have been deployed.

The earthquake occurred at 17:06 Beijing time on Tuesday. The epicenter of the underground shocks was located at coordinates 37.80 degrees north latitude and 95.56 degrees east longitude. The hypocenter was at a depth of 10 km. -0-
