Haikou, June 14 /Xinhua/ — The first project for dismantling aircraft in the Hainan free trade port /PST/ was launched on Friday at the unified base for comprehensive maintenance of the air fleet of this port. Its launch marked the completion of the formation of a closed-loop value chain in the field of technical maintenance of aviation equipment on Hainan Island in southern China.
Aircraft dismantling is a key element of the aviation circular economy. The disassembly of retired aircraft, testing, and restoration of components allow for the reuse of parts and materials, providing both economic and ecological benefits, and also increasing the competitiveness of Hainan PST’s aviation sector in the field of technical maintenance.
Hainan PST offers a number of advantages for this business. The strategic position of Hainan as a southern island makes it an important transport hub connecting China with the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Moreover, this project was implemented by the company Grand China Aviation Maintenance Co., Ltd. under HNA Technic, which is distinguished by proven experience in the field of aircraft repair and modernization.
In addition, political measures are being introduced at the Hainan PSC to provide significant support in the area of aircraft dismantling, as well as subsequent processing and reuse of aviation components.
Hainan Free Trade Port — the largest free trade port in the world by area — fully transitioned to an independent customs operation regime throughout the island territory in December 2025. This ensured freer import of foreign goods, expanded the list of goods subject to zero tariffs, and introduced additional measures favorable to conducting business.
According to industry experts, the global market for repaired and restored used serviceable components is enormous. At the same time, the zero tariff policy and other measures to simplify imports in the Hainan Free Trade Port help companies reduce both financial and time costs when re-manufacturing components from dismantled aircraft.
According to the department overseeing the new Cziandun district in the city of Haikou, where this base is located, thanks to the implementation of repair, modification, dismantling, and processing procedures for components throughout the creation chain, it is expected that more and more companies related to the aviation industry will gather in Hainan Province, which, in turn, will stimulate growth in the fields of aviation logistics, component trade, technical service, and other related industries.
