Beijing, June 13 /Xinhua/ — The People’s Bank of China (PBOC, Central Bank) on Friday announced the conduct on June 15 of a reverse repurchase operation totaling 600 billion yuan (about 88 billion U.S. dollars) to maintain an adequate liquidity volume in the country’s banking system.
The operation will be carried out over a period of 6 months or 183 days based on the fixed volume method, interest rate tenders, as well as multiple prices, the bank’s statement said.
In June, the term for repaying six-month reverse repo transactions totaling 600 billion yuan expires. This means that the upcoming operation by the Central Bank will be equivalent to a rollover, having completed three consecutive months of operations with a reduction in volume.
Direct REPO operations are a tool implemented by the NBR to manage liquidity in the country’s banking system, conducted once a month for a period of no more than one year. -0-
