Tehran, June 13 /Xin Hua/ — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Friday evening that the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the United States may take place in the coming days.

In an interview with the state television channel IRIB TV, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that after the memorandum is finalized, it will be signed by both parties in digital format, and this will be announced.

He added that after the possible signing, both parties are obliged not to cease any military actions. Then the second stage of negotiations will begin, which will be allotted 60 days to reach a final agreement primarily dedicated to Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.

The diplomat emphasized that Tehran insists that the only acceptable solution to the problem of highly enriched uranium is its “dilution” on the territory of the country.

A. Aragchi also stated that the potential memorandum of understanding will include provisions on the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, requiring Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories.

Among other key issues addressed in the memorandum are the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of the American naval blockade of Iran, and the unfreezing of Iranian assets, the diplomat added.

Speaking about the Strait of Hormuz, A. Arakchi stated that the control of the strait will definitely not be the same as it was before the war. According to him, Iran retains sovereignty and military presence, but at the same time a legal system will be created that corresponds to the norms of international law.

He excluded the introduction of fees for sales, but noted that the size of service fees will be reasonable.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States has “just achieved an excellent resolution of the war with Iran,” adding that the signing of the agreement is expected “in the next few days.”

In recent weeks, Iran and the United States have exchanged several peaceful proposals through Pakistan’s mediation and are working on finalizing a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict. –0–
