Beijing, June 13 /Xin Hua/ — In 2025, China will reach a historic milestone in the field of climate: additional energy from renewable sources will fully cover the country’s growing electricity demand. According to a report published on Friday, this is the first time that exclusively through “green” energy it has been possible to satisfy the entire additional demand for energy caused by economic growth.
According to the “Report on the Development of Renewable Energy in China,” last year the volume of renewable energy power generation capacity put into operation in China reached another record level, accounting for more than 60 percent of the global increase.
According to forecasts in the report, by 2026 China will increase the capacity of wind and solar power by approximately 300 gigawatts (GW), with renewable energy sources (RES) continuing to play a leading role in the country’s transition to environmentally clean and low-carbon energy.
The report notes that the installed power capacity of VIE in China in 2025 exceeded 2337 GW, and renewable energy sources accounted for 82.7 percent of the newly installed power capacity.
The volume of newly installed capacities of distributed solar photovoltaic systems exceeded 100 GW for the second consecutive year, which was accompanied by a noticeable improvement in the indicators of electricity consumption in the regional power system and the use of environmentally clean energy.
According to the State Energy Administration of the PRC, in 2025 the volume of electricity production in China from renewable sources will reach about 4 trillion kWh, exceeding the total electricity consumption of the 27 member countries of the European Union (EU), which amounted to approximately 3.8 trillion kWh.
China has built the world’s largest renewable energy system, promising to accelerate the transition from “green” energy to all sectors.
