UN, June 9 /Xinhua/ — As the Ukrainian crisis drags on, the conflict continues to spiral. This was stated on Monday by the UN Deputy Permanent Representative Sun Lei, who called on all parties for unremitting efforts towards the political settlement of the crisis.
In his speech at the UN Security Council briefing on Ukraine, he noted that despite the daily changes in the number of strikes, casualties, and destruction of infrastructure on the battlefield, one truth remains unchanged: military means cannot bring peace, and the continuation of the conflict will only lead to even greater consequences.
Discussing the complexity of the crisis, the difficulties of reaching a peace agreement, and the vitally important and difficult path to political settlement, Sun Lei outlined the main expectations in light of the current situation.
Noting that China’s position on the Ukrainian issue has always been objective and impartial, Sun Lei stated that the CNS will continue to work together with the international community to make efforts to contribute positively to the political resolution of crises. –0–
