The Institute of Civil Engineering of Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University of Peter the Great concluded two strategic agreements: with the State Unitary Enterprise “Lenoblvodokanal” and with the technological company LLC “APVELL”. The documents solidified long-term partnership in the field of personnel training, applied research, and the introduction of modern environmental technologies. The signing ceremony took place at the International Scientific Conference “Ecology of Urban Infrastructure—2026,” which brought together more than 70 researchers, scientists, and experts from leading universities and ecological organizations of Russia and foreign countries to discuss pressing issues of urban infrastructure ecology.

The agreement with the State Unitary Enterprise “Lenoblvodokanal” was signed by the director of the Engineering and Construction Institute, Marina Petrochenko, and the deputy general director for personnel and communications of the State Unitary Enterprise “Lenoblvodokanal,” Nadezhda Maksimova. The cooperation aims to ensure high-quality professional training of graduates and the formation of an industry personnel reserve. Within the framework of the partnership, joint scientific research in the field of ecology is planned, the organization of open lectures by leading specialists of the enterprise, as well as the conduct of internships and industrial practice for students of the Engineering and Construction Institute.

Today, the ecology of urban infrastructure is one of the priority scientific and educational development directions. The global economic challenges facing our country and the world community require not only deep analysis but also concrete, implemented solutions. We hope that this event will become a starting point for long-term cooperation between universities, business, and government representatives in the field of urban infrastructure ecology,” noted Lyudmila Pankova, Vice-Rector for Educational Activities at SPbPU.

Cooperation with LLC “APVELL”, signed by Marina Petrochenko and the general director of LLC “APVELL”, expands the possibilities of academic and scientific interaction. The agreement is aimed at developing student scientific research activities, jointly organizing specialized conferences and seminars, as well as integrating real production tasks into educational programs. Such an approach will allow graduates to adapt to the technological requirements of the industry during their studies and participate in the creation of innovative engineering solutions.

It is important for us that academic knowledge meets real production tasks. Cooperation with LLC “APVELL” can contribute to the rapid implementation of student developments in the work of enterprises. This is a direct way to train specialists ready to meet the challenges of the digital transformation of the industry. At the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, three key scientific directions are being implemented: digital engineering, new materials and technologies, artificial intelligence, each of which is closely related to environmental issues.Only through the collaboration of universities, business, and government is it possible to train highly qualified personnel capable of creating sustainable ecological development of urban infrastructure,” emphasized Marina Petrochenko, director of the Engineering and Construction Institute.

During the business program of the conference, advanced technological solutions in the field of water treatment were presented. The company LLC “APVELL” demonstrated a grinder for solids in wastewater. Its technological result is an increase in the efficiency of grinding fibrous inclusions in wastewater due to the original design of the working chamber with a driven rotor and movable cutting elements.

Representatives of the Engineering and Construction Institute of SPbPU also presented their own developments: a photo-bioreactor-biofilter for carbon dioxide absorption, providing increased efficiency due to an increased suspension contact area with air and uniform lighting, as well as FOPs filters for wastewater treatment, which after operation can be integrated into the composition of nutrient substrates.

During two days, participants discussed key industry issues, including environmental monitoring of the urban environment, rational use of natural resources and “green” technologies, digital solutions in environmental management, water environment ecology, as well as issues of environmental safety of urban infrastructure and risk management. Special attention was paid to advanced technologies within the framework of the circular economy, methods of wastewater treatment, territory restoration, gas cleaning, and decarbonization.

The conference participants were engaged by the innovative pilot eco-cluster project in the town of Tiur’vyn, Leningrad region, presented by the General Director of JSC “EFI” of the ROSNANO Group Ivan Ozhgin together with the head of the administration of the Tiur’vyn district Aleksey Britsun. The project envisages the creation of a full-cycle center: from the collection and sorting of waste to deep processing and production of final products. The development already involves the ROSNANO Group, JSC “EFI”, ASI, the administration of the Tiur’vyn district, the relevant committees of the Leningrad region, the ecological expert community, and SPbPU.This format allows combining technology, investment, science, education, and regional practice into a unified model of ecological modernization.

Developing a new economy of respect for nature, we ensure the quality of life improves for people and shape an environment of peace and creation. The “Ecocluster” project must demonstrate that the “zero waste” principle can be technological, self-sustaining, investment-attractive, and socially engaging, emphasized Ivan Ozhgin.
