Washington, June 6 /Xinhua/ — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on the social network X that American troops struck several Iranian radar facilities on Friday. This marked another escalation of the conflict, threatening the fragile truce in the Middle East.
According to the report, this step was taken shortly after the US Armed Forces shot down four Iranian drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. The drones “posed a direct threat to maritime navigation in the region,” the statement adds.
“Subsequently, the US Armed Forces struck coastal Iranian radar installations in Goruk and on the island of Qeshm to defend against further attacks,” CENTCOM stated.
The military advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Mossen Rezaee, said in an exclusive CNN interview on Friday that a potential peace agreement between the US and Iran depends on the readiness of the Donald Trump administration to unfreeze 24 billion US dollars of Iranian assets.
“The negotiations have reached a deadlock, and /President of the USA Donald/ Trump must get us out of this deadlock,” M. Rezai’s words are quoted. “The ball is on Trump’s side.”
An American leader said in an interview with NBC News on Friday that Iranian leaders have not yet reached an agreement with the USA to end the war because they are “strong” and “proud,” but ultimately “they have no choice.”
In his opinion, Iran currently has 21-22 percent of the missiles it had at the beginning of the war in February.
