Tehran, June 6 /Xinhua/ — Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Saturday that Lebanon is not a “bargaining chip” for Iran.
He made this statement in response to a comment by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, who in an interview released on Friday by CNN criticized Iran for using Lebanon as “currency” in negotiations with the USA.
“Judging by the statements of Mr. Aoun, one might think that Iran has occupied a fifth of Lebanon’s territory, forced a quarter of the Lebanese people to leave their homes, and bombs his country daily,” wrote A. Aragchi on the social network X.
“If Lebanon were a currency exchange for Iran, we would have long ago made a deal,” he said.
A. Aragchi called on J. Aoun to save Lebanon from its “true enemy.”
In an interview with the Lebanese TV channel Al Mayadeen, broadcast on Wednesday, A. Aragchi warned that Iran will take retaliatory measures in the event of an Israeli attack on Beirut. –0–
