Washington, June 5 /Xinhua/ — U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is ready to meet with Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei if the two sides reach a peaceful agreement.

“I don’t want to meet. But if I did meet, it would be an honor for me. I would like to see, we would agree or not, and if we agree, maybe I would meet with him. I would not object to that,” D. Trump told journalists at the White House.

“I would say that I am not among his favorites, but, considering what was said, he is probably a professional,” said D. Trump. — “In fact, in some circles, he has a very good reputation.”

In response to the question of whether such a meeting could take place in the USA, the American leader replied that “in fact, I haven’t really heard much about this. I did not propose this, but some people proposed it.”

US Secretary of State Mark Rubio stated on Tuesday that, in his opinion, the new supreme leader of Iran is alive and “increasingly involved” in the ongoing American-Iranian negotiations.

“There are signs that he is becoming more active at some level, since all his communications were in written form and through intermediaries,” M. Rubio told lawmakers at a Senate hearing.
