Havana, June 5 /Xinhua/ — Cuba’s President Miguel Díaz-Canel said on Thursday that new sanctions imposed by Washington, along with recent statements by US President Donald Trump, further tighten the blockade against Cuba and deepen tensions between the two countries.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury on Thursday added M. Diaz-Canel, several other individuals, and five organizations, including the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba, to its sanctions list.
Earlier, D. Trump made it clear that the USA can shift its attention to Cuba as soon as the war with Iran starts to decline.
M. Diaz-Canel stated on the social network X that the actions of the USA are “aimed at strengthening blockade measures and a conflict scenario between Cuba and the United States.”
He added that the “coercive measures” applied in recent weeks against Cuba were intended to harm the Cuban people, and that the “aggressiveness and malice” of the U.S. government would encounter Cuba’s determination to “resist strangling scenarios and imperialist offensives.”
The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, also stated on Thursday that the inclusion of M. Díaz-Canel and other Cuban organizations and individuals on the sanctions list “is another manifestation of the interventionist plan of the United States to portray Cuba as a threat to the national security of its own country.”
