Tehran, June 2 /Sina/ — The former supreme leader of Iran Ali Khamenei, who died on February 28 as a result of an American-Israeli strike, will be buried in the city of Mashhad in the northeast of the country. This was reported on Tuesday by the deputy mayor of Tehran for social and cultural affairs Mawammad Amin Tavakolizade.
As reported by the Iranian semi-official news agency Fars, M. A. Tavakkolizadeh stated that A. Khamenei will be buried on the territory of the Imam Reza mausoleum according to his will and the wishes of his family.
According to the vice mayor, a three-day farewell ceremony and a 24-hour funeral procession are planned in Tehran, which will take place in the religious and cultural complex of Bozorg Mosalla or in the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini. Then the body will be transported to the cities of Qom and Mashhad for similar ceremonies.
M. A. Tavakkolizade clarified that the events are planned to begin in the second half of June. Up to 20 million people may participate in the ceremony in Tehran.
The son of the late leader Mojtaba Khamenei was elected as the new supreme leader of Iran in early March.
In another message on Tuesday, the Fars agency, citing an informed source, stated that the exchange of messages between Iran and the USA had been suspended at least several days ago.
As noted, the last message sent from Tehran to Washington was of a “clear” nature and concerned Lebanon, which drew general attention.
This message in Farsi appeared after US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on Tuesday that negotiations between the United States and Iran “are ongoing continuously.”
He stated that the messages about the suspension of negotiations are “false and erroneous”.
