Berlin, May 31 /Xin Hua/ — Wolfgang Kubicki was elected the new chairman of the Free Democratic Party of Germany (FDP) on Saturday, replacing Christian Dürr following the vote at the party’s 77th federal congress.

74-year-old V. Kubiki secured leadership in the party with 59.27 percent of the votes, surpassing Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann.

V. Kubiki will lead the SVP at a critical moment: the pro-business party strives for a political reboot after it failed to overcome the 5-percent threshold in the 2025 elections, which is necessary to enter the federal parliament.

His predecessor K. Dürr served as party leader for only one year after the election defeat.

V. Kubiki promised to return SVP to the path of success, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming elections to the state parliaments / Landtage / in eastern Germany.
