New York, May 27 /Xinhua/ — Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed hope on Wednesday during a meeting with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel in New York that the Portuguese side will play an active role in promoting relations between China and the European Union.
Van Yi, who is also a member of the CPC Central Committee Politburo, stated that the Chinese side consistently considers the EU as one of the important poles of a multipolar world and supports the achievement of European strategic autonomy.
According to the Chinese diplomat, China and Europe can quite well contribute to each other’s success and achieve mutual benefit and overall gain.

Van I and P. Ranzhel arrived in New York to participate in a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on the topic “Defending the goals and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system, in which the UN holds a central place.”
