Beijing, May 25 /Xinhua/ — China is paying increased attention to the development of China-Singapore relations and expects to maintain a high-level dynamic of exchanges, promote practical cooperation in various fields, and strengthen cultural and humanitarian exchanges with Singapore. This was stated on Monday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Wang Yi.

Van Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the corresponding statement during negotiations in Beijing with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

The head of the MID stated that during the past year, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries and the joint efforts of both sides, China-Singapore relations of comprehensive high-quality partnership, oriented towards the future, have developed a positive dynamic. He called on the parties to further strengthen strategic communication, build mutual trust, jointly overcome constantly emerging global challenges, and safeguard common interests of peace and stability in the region.

According to Van I, ensuring the security of global production and sales chains and uninterrupted maritime shipping corresponds to the common interests of the entire international community, and China is ready to make further efforts in this direction.

Noting that Singapore is an important member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and will assume the chairmanship of the organization next year, Van I expressed hope that the Singaporean side will continue to play an active role in promoting cooperation between China and ASEAN.

V. Balakrishnan, for his part, stated that Singapore highly values its relationship with China, firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and strongly opposes “Taiwan independence.”

He emphasized that the Singaporean side is ready, together with China, to support close exchanges at a high level, promote practical cooperation in various fields, implement key cooperation projects, and facilitate regional interconnectedness.

Singapore is ready to foster even greater progress in the relationship of all-encompassing strategic partnership between ASEAN and China, support the initiative on global development, advocate multilateralism and free trade, as well as make joint efforts with China to promote peace, development, and prosperity worldwide, added V. Balakrishnan. –0–
