Beijing, May 25 /Xinhua/ — The Chinese side is ready to actively promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor together with the Pakistani side and continue the successful implementation of major joint connectivity projects. This was stated on Monday by Premier of the State Council of the PRC Li Qian during negotiations in Beijing with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Recalling that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, Li Qian indicated that at present, when the international situation is complex and confusing, China and Pakistan maintain close communication and interaction, defend the common interests of the two countries, and bring positive energy to the promotion of peace in the region.

As stated by the Premier of the State Council, China consistently pays priority attention to relations and cooperation with Pakistan within its diplomacy with neighboring countries and is ready to strengthen cohesion, develop traditional friendship, consolidate mutual support, unwaveringly expand practical cooperation, and strive to achieve new significant results in building the China-Pakistan community of shared destiny.

Li Qian indicated that China intends to continue the successful implementation of major joint projects in the field of interconnectedness, strengthening cooperation in areas such as industry, mining, agriculture, people’s welfare, and finance. The Chinese side is ready to import more high-quality products from Pakistan and, together with the Pakistani side, actively develop an updated version of the bilateral free trade agreement, added the head of the Chinese government.

According to him, the parties can also explore opportunities for cooperation in such areas as artificial intelligence, digital economy, and green energy, in order to jointly cultivate new driving forces of development.

Li Qian noted that the Chinese side is also ready to deepen cooperation with the Pakistani side in the field of human resource development and welcomes the arrival of a large number of young Pakistani students in China for study and qualification improvement. China expresses hope that the Pakistani side will continue to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese employees, projects, and institutions in Pakistan, creating a safe and stable environment for cooperation, the Premier of the State Council added.

Sh. Sharif, in turn, noted that the development of relations with China is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. The Pakistani side strictly adheres to the One-China principle and consistently and firmly supports the just position of the Chinese side on issues affecting its core interests, including Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and maritime issues, the Prime Minister emphasized.

As he stated, Pakistan is ready to increase exchanges at a high level, expand cooperation in various fields, and unwaveringly promote the construction of the Pakistan-China community of shared destiny.

Sh. Sharif stated that the Pakistani side invites Chinese enterprises to invest in Pakistan and establish business there, and will continue to take effective measures to ensure an even safer and more favorable business environment.

Pakistan supports the four global initiatives put forward by China and wishes to maintain close multilateral communication and cooperation with the SCO to contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world as a whole, the Prime Minister noted.
