Manila, May 24 /Xinhua/ — 26 people were rescued after the collapse of a nine-story building under construction early Sunday morning in the city of Angeles, Pampanga province. This was reported by local authorities.
The Disaster Risk Reduction and Aftermath Management Department of Angeles city reported that the accident occurred at approximately 03:00 local time. 24 people were extracted from the rubble of the collapsed building, and two more were rescued from a nearby aparthotel that was affected as a result of the incident. Rescue teams are currently conducting active searches for those still trapped under the debris.
It was previously reported that fewer than 30 people were found under the rubble of the building.
The incident occurred after heavy rains and hurricane-force winds struck the city on Saturday evening. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the causes of the incident are being investigated.
