Ankara, May 22 /Xinhua/ — EFES-2026, one of the largest joint exercises in Turkey, concluded in the city of Izmir in the southwest of the country. The armed forces of a number of foreign partners participated in it.

According to local media, a total of 10,388 military personnel took part in the maneuver, including 1,398 from 50 countries.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister of Defense Yaşar Güler, and Chief of the Turkish Armed Forces General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu observed the concluding events of the exercises held at the Doğanbey training ground in İzmir.

As R. T. Erdoğan stated at the closing ceremony, Turkey aims to position itself as a key player in ensuring regional peace in conditions of growing instability.

He stressed that the world is going through a period when security paradigms are changing, international law is losing authority and trust, and there is a need for a new security architecture.

“Turkey will continue to defend peace and stability, opposing those who strive for war and chaos,” the president assured.
