Minsk, May 21 /Xin Hua/ — Due to another intrusion of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from Lithuania into Belarusian airspace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus summoned the temporary duty officer of the Lithuanian affairs in Belarus, Erikas Vilkanezas. This was announced on Thursday by Ruslan Varankov, press secretary of the Belarusian foreign affairs department.

As noted in a message released on the same day by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, the Lithuanian diplomat declared a resolute protest in connection with yet another gross violation of the state border of Belarus by an unmanned aerial vehicle from the territory of Lithuania.

The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded that on May 17 of the current year, the Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle “Chaika”, which was initially heading to the territory of Russia to carry out strikes, was found near the village of Stanislavtsy in the Dokshitsky District of the Vitebsk Region.

“The Lithuanian side did not take any actions to prevent the incursion of a combat drone into the territory of Belarus, including timely notification of the Belarusian armed forces, unlike the measures taken by the Belarusian side in a similar situation. These actions constitute a direct threat to the security of Belarus and are a gross violation of international law norms,” the statement says.

The Belarusian side demanded that the Lithuanian side conduct an investigation into this matter and provide detailed information about the circumstances of the incident, as well as take exhaustive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. –0–
