“Green” investments of Rosneft in 2025 increased by 4% and amounted to nearly 77 billion rubles; over three years, this amount exceeded 215 billion rubles. The funds are directed towards large projects with an ecological effect, including reduction of industrial emissions, improvement of water resource management, and enhancement of pipeline reliability.
Rosneft implements an integrated approach to environmental protection and rational use of natural resources, adhering to the UN Principles and Goals in the field of sustainable development, and also develops a long-term environmental agenda based on the Strategy “Rosneft – 2030.” Key events and achievements of the Company, including in the field of sustainable development, are reflected inAnnual reportBy the end of 2025.
Last year, Rosneft approved the “Clean Air” program as part of its contribution to the national development goals of Russia and in support of a federal project of the same name. The main goal of the corporate program is to reduce industrial emissions at 41 of the Company’s facilities in 13 cities. Additionally, within the framework of the strategic goal for the rational use of water resources, the “Clean Water” program was developed and approved, combining activities and projects aimed at improving the quality of wastewater treatment at the Company’s facilities.
Significant attention is given to the issues of reclamation of disturbed lands and handling of wastes. In the region of presence, the Company continued reclamation activities of lands considered “historical heritage,” disturbed during the Soviet period. In 2025, 360 hectares of land were reclaimed, of which about 80% was done by the company’s own eco-service. In 2025, Rosneft ensured the processing of more than 3.8 million tons of drilling and about 0.9 million tons of oil-containing wastes, which allowed reducing the volume of oil-containing wastes of the “historical heritage.”
Rosneft pays special attention to issues of biodiversity conservation. Within the framework of the “Tamura” program for biodiversity conservation in Arctic ecosystems, launched in 2024, a full-scale aerial survey of the polar bear subpopulation in the Kara Sea was conducted for the first time last year. In total, over three years of program activities in cooperation with leading scientific institutes of the country, 10 research expeditions have already been organized.
In addition, with the support of Rosneft, the implementation of other ecological projects continued, among which were studies of the kabarga population in Evenkia, a monitoring program of the gray whale population on the shelf of Sakhalin Island, studies of the populations of the white-tailed eagle in the Khabarovsk region and the white-tailed eagle in the Samara region, as well as a program aimed at increasing the population of the Amur tiger. The Company also expanded work on the conservation of rare animal species by taking under its care a foal of the only semi-wild population of the Przewalski’s horse in Russia.
Last year, scientists summarized the results of the large-scale three-year ecological project of the Company in the White Sea. According to the research results, ecosystem stability was confirmed, gaps in the study of fauna were identified, and new species for science were also described.
Taking into account many years of experience in research and projects on biodiversity conservation, as well as the accumulated scientific ecological data of the Company, a standard corporate program for biodiversity conservation in all presence regions has been developed. The program is the result of large-scale work, within which a priority and complete list of significant species has been formed – biological indicators of marine and terrestrial mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, fish, terrestrial invertebrates, zoo- and phytoplankton, terrestrial plants with a description of each species-bioindicator.
Subsidiary companies of Rosneft regularly participate in activities to forest conservation and restoration in various regions of the country, including various ecological campaigns: “Green Spring,” “Forest Planting Day,” “Protected Forest,” as well as the international campaign “Garden of Memory,” dedicated to the memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War.
By 2025, employees of subsidiaries of Rosneft planted about 8 million tree seedlings of various species in different regions of the country as part of reforestation activities: in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug – Yugra, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Krasnoyarsk Krai, Tyumen, Saratov, Samara, Sakhalin, Tomsk, and Ryazan regions, in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Moscow, and others. During the last five years, a total of about 46 million trees have been planted.
