Minsk, May 16 /Sinyua/ — Belarus considers BRICS not just as an association, but as a strategic platform for the future. This was reported by the first deputy minister of foreign affairs of Belarus, Sergey Lukashevich, participating in the meeting of foreign ministers /SMID/ of BRICS in New Delhi headed by the Belarusian delegation. Corresponding information was published by the Indian newspaper The Economic Times.

He emphasized that in the current geopolitical context, BRICS remains an authoritative international platform aimed at uniting the efforts of Global South states, and promoting genuine multipolarity, equality, mutual respect, and inclusiveness in international relations.

S. Lukashovich called the acquisition of the status of a partner state of BRICS in 2024 a significant event for Belarus. “Our immediate priority is joining BRICS as a full member, as soon as the association is ready for expansion. We share a common vision of the world order with the global majority and adhere to unity of positions,” he reported.

S. Lukashevich emphasized that today, when outdated unipolar mechanisms demonstrate their inefficiency and politicization, the role of BRICS as a pillar of a multipolar world and an integral part of a just world order acquires critically important significance.

He also noted that Belarus, as a partner state of BRICS, strives to actively participate in the work of existing multilateral associations in the format of “BRICS+”. In this sense, the BRICS Summit is no exception. The event provides an excellent platform for discussing global and regional issues and deepening cooperation within BRICS.

“Belarus considers the BRIKS not just as an association, but as a strategic platform for the future. Its members face ambitious tasks that require coordinated efforts. Belarus strives to take an active part in this important work,” summarized S. Lukashevich. –0–
