Beijing, May 15 /Xinhua/ — China hopes that the United States will take “concrete actions” to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region. This was stated on Friday by the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi.
A Chinese diplomat made this statement during a press briefing following the meeting between CCP Chairman Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing.
Emphasizing that the Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China, Wan Yi expressed hope that the American side will adhere to the one-China principle and the three Sino-American joint communiqués and fulfill its international obligations.
Van I also reminded that the Taiwan issue is the most important in China-US relations. “China hopes that the American side will ensure the stable development of China-US relations with concrete actions, as well as peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” he said.
As the diplomat pointed out, the defense of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is the greatest common denominator for China and the United States.
“During the meeting, we developed the feeling that the American side understands China’s position, values the concerns of the PRC, and, as the international community, does not support or accept Taiwan’s movement towards independence,” summarized Wan I. –0–
