Minsk, May 16 /Xin Hua/ — On Friday, the national stage of the World Competition “Bridge of the Chinese Language-2026” took place in Minsk among students of primary and secondary school classes and universities of Belarus. The event was attended by 198 schoolchildren and students from across the country. The winners will go to China to participate in the global final of the competition.
During the award ceremony, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the PRC to Belarus, Zhang Wenchuan, specially noted that this year marks the 25th anniversary since the founding of the “Chinese Bridge” series of competitions. Over this time, these events have attracted more than 1.8 million young men and women from over 160 countries.
He also emphasized that in recent years, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two countries, China-Belarusian relations have become an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Belarus, constantly rising to a new level.
“Language is the bearer of culture. Studying the Chinese language not only allows one to understand the five-thousand-year-old civilization of China but also helps to directly take advantage of the opportunities opened by China’s modernization. Every Belarusian friend studying the Chinese language is a people’s ambassador of Chinese-Belarusian friendship and the very youngest force leading the development of relations between our countries,” noted Zhang Wenchuan.
In turn, the Deputy Minister of Education of Belarus, Vladimir Dolzhenkov, noted the growing demand in Belarus for specialists capable of using the Chinese language in professional activities.
“In this academic year, Chinese language instruction as a subject is carried out in 50 general secondary institutions and in 15 institutions of higher education. Additionally, in 60 general secondary education institutions, Chinese language is studied as an elective. Chinese language as a subject is studied by more than 5,500 students in general secondary and higher education institutions,” he reported.
The event was organized by the Embassy of the PRC in Belarus with the participation of the Confucius Institutes of the Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages, the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, and the Belarusian National Technical University. During the award ceremony, winners were presented with honorary certificates and prizes, and Chinese and Belarusian students performed creative acts together, sharing the joy of victory in a friendly atmosphere.
