Washington, May 15 /Xinhua/ — Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend the ceasefire regime for 45 days, which came into force last month. This was reported on Friday by a representative of the U.S. State Department.
“The ceasefire from April 16 will be extended for 45 days to ensure further progress,” wrote State Department representative Tommy Pigott on the social network X.
According to his message, Israel and Lebanon will resume political negotiations at the U.S. State Department on June 2-3, and on May 29 parallel talks on security issues will begin at the Pentagon with military representatives.
On Thursday and Friday, the two countries held the third round of direct negotiations here, which T. Pigott characterized as “quite productive.”
Despite the ceasefire regime, clashes between Israel and Hezbollah continue in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese National News Agency, on Friday, as a result of Israeli strikes in the south of the country, at least nine people were killed and dozens were wounded.
The “Hezbollah” group stated that it struck Israeli drones, military personnel, military bulldozers, and a “Merkava” tank in several areas in southern Lebanon.
