Beijing, May 12 /Xinhua/ — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday called on Pakistan to activate mediation efforts to resolve the Iran conflict and contribute to an appropriate solution of issues related to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made a corresponding appeal during a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Isaak Dar.
M. I. Dar informed Van I about the recent Pakistani indirect efforts to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the US, thanked the Chinese side for their support, and expressed hope for strengthened coordination and interaction with China to jointly play a positive role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Van I once again set forth the principal position of the Chinese side, highly appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting American-Iranian negotiations and the extension of the temporary ceasefire, and also expressed hope that the Pakistani side, with confidence in its own strength, will activate mediation efforts, contribute to a proper resolution of issues related to the opening of the Hormuz Strait, and the prompt restoration of peace in the region, which is what the entire international community desires.
China will continue to support the intermediary efforts of the Pakistani side and make its own efforts for this, assured the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC.
Van I reminded that in a few days China and Pakistan will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. As he indicated, the parties should jointly hold anniversary events, activate exchanges at a high level, strengthen strategic communication, consolidate unbreakable friendship, promote practical cooperation, more reliably protect the core interests of each other and the common interests of China and Pakistan, in order to elevate China-Pakistan relations to an all-weather strategic cooperation and partnership to a new height.
In a difficult and confusing world, both sides should speak with the fair voice of China and Pakistan on a multilateral platform, such as the UN, and jointly defend multilateralism, added the Chinese diplomat.
M. I. Dar, in turn, stated that the Pakistani side wishes to use the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states to deepen comprehensive cooperation with the Chinese side, activate multilateral interaction, and achieve new progress in the development of Pakistan-China relations of all-weather strategic cooperation and partnership.
