Dushanbe, May 12 /Xin Hua/ — Today, the relations between Tajikistan and China can be characterized as an example of consistent and pragmatic partnership based on the coincidence of strategic interests. This is stated in an article posted on the website of the information agency “Khovar”.

The article notes that Tajikistan and China have built relations over the past three decades that have gradually gone beyond ordinary neighborliness and acquired the character of a strategic partnership. “Under the conditions of transformation of international relations, increased competition for energy resources, transport routes, and the influence in Central Asia, Dushanbe and Beijing demonstrate a stable dynamic of cooperation, deepening political, economic, and humanitarian ties,” the article says.

According to the chief specialist of the Department of Analysis and Forecasting of Regional Security Issues of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Amon Temirov, against the backdrop of global economic changes and the transformation of Central Asia’s logistical routes, the region is gradually acquiring special significance as a space for transit and interconnectedness. In this system, Tajikistan occupies an important geographical position, and China considers the region as one of the key directions of its foreign economic strategy.

“Active trade and economic cooperation is developing between the two countries, infrastructure projects are being implemented, transport communications, energy facilities, and industrial enterprises are being modernized. Within the framework of the “One Belt – One Road” initiative, Tajikistan is gradually integrating into a broader Eurasian transport system. The initiative is aimed at developing transport corridors, expanding trade ties, and strengthening economic cooperation between the countries of Eurasia.””For Tajikistan, this opens up additional opportunities for attracting investments, developing infrastructure, and increasing the country’s transit potential,” the expert believes.

The article notes that Chinese companies are actively investing in energy, transport infrastructure, construction, telecommunications, mining industry, and production of building materials.

“An important direction of Tajik-Chinese cooperation remains the sphere of security. The unstable situation in Afghanistan, threats of extremism and terrorism, illegal drug trafficking, and transnational crime require the coordination of efforts of the regional states. Under these conditions, Dushanbe and Beijing are interested in maintaining stability and strengthening mechanisms of regional security,” said A.Temirov noted that cooperation within the Shanghai organization of cooperation, which remains one of the key platforms for interaction between the states of Central Asia and China, plays a significant role in this process.

According to him, humanitarian cooperation between states is also gradually expanding. Educational programs, cultural exchanges, contacts in the scientific and tourism spheres are developing. The number of students studying languages and receiving education at universities in both countries is increasing.

A. Temirov believes that the course towards a strategic partnership between Tajikistan and China corresponds to the modern realities of international relations and reflects the aspiration of both countries to strengthen stability, develop mutually beneficial cooperation, and form sustainable mechanisms of regional interaction. –0–
