Beijing, May 11 /Xinhua/ — In April 2026, the volumes of both production of new energy source vehicles /NEV/ and their sales in China increased year-on-year, data released on Monday by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers /CAAM/ showed.
According to CAAM data, the production volume of NEV cars in the country in April amounted to 1.32 million units, and sales – 1.34 million units. Both indicators increased by 5.5% and 9.7% respectively in annual terms.
During this reporting period, sales of NEV vehicles in the country accounted for 53.2% of the total new car sales volume.
In China, for the first 4 months of the current year, the total volume of automobile production amounted to 9.61 million units, and the sales volume was 9.57 million units. At the same time, the volumes of production and sales of NEV automobiles in the country amounted to 4.29 million units and 4.3 million units, respectively.
Data also showed that from January to April this year, automobile exports from China reached 3.13 million units, which is 61.5% more than in the same period last year. Notably, NEV automobile exports reached 1.38 million units, which is 120% more than the year before.
Deputy Secretary General of CAAM Chen Shihua stated that although the volume of automobile production and sales declined slightly on an annual basis in April, the rate of decrease of this indicator has slowed down.
He added that a number of recent political measures have sent positive signals that will help increase domestic demand for automobiles, strengthen advantages in foreign trade, and contribute to the stable functioning of the industry and its high-quality development. -0-
