Changsha, May 5 /Xin Hua/ — All enterprises producing pyrotechnic products in Hunan Province /Central China/ have completely halted production activities for its regulation, active work is underway to prevent and eliminate hidden security threats of various types. This was reported on Tuesday by the local emergency management department.
These measures are being taken after an explosion that occurred on Monday at around 16:43 at an enterprise in the Luyan district of the Chansha city prefecture, the administrative center of Hunan province. As a result of the tragedy, 26 people died, and 61 more were injured.
In Liuyang, considered a major center of the pyrotechnic industry in China, there are over 400 enterprises producing fireworks and firecrackers. In 2025, the total annual production volume exceeded 50 billion yuan (about 7.29 billion US dollars). Approximately 70% of all Chinese fireworks exports come from this city district.
