More than 70,000 people in regions of Russia remain without power due to bad weather

Moscow, April 28 /TASS/ — In a number of regions of Russia, due to wet snow, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds, partial power outages occurred. More than 70 thousand people remain without electricity, the press service of the Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergency Situations and Disaster Relief /EMERCOM/ of the Russian Federation reported.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, due to bad weather, more than 2 thousand trees have fallen, and over 1 thousand vehicles have been damaged. Power outages mainly affected residents of the Vologda region, where 42 thousand people remain without electricity. Moscow and Novgorod regions were also affected.

In Moscow, Moscow Oblast, and Samara Oblast, 33 people were affected, including four children. Three people died from falling trees in Samara Oblast, where wind gusts of up to 27 m/s were recorded, Governor of the region Vyacheslav Fedoryshev reported.

Precipitation in the form of rain and wet snow began in a number of regions on the evening of April 26; gusty wind and the sticking of wet snow can persist until the end of April 28.

In the Moscow region, in connection with mass power outages, a prosecutor’s inspection has been organized; if necessary, the introduction of high alert and emergency regimes will be initiated, the regional prosecutor’s press service reports. –0–
