Washington, April 22 /Xinhua/ — It is expected that Israel and Lebanon will hold the second round of negotiations at the ambassador level at the US State Department in Washington, District of Columbia. This was reported by American media on Tuesday.
Each country will present its ambassador to the USA — from Israel, this is Yair Leiter, from Lebanon — Nada Hamade-Moavad.
The 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect at midnight from Thursday to Friday after several weeks of intensified cross-border fighting against the backdrop of the American-Israeli war against Iran.
The ceasefire remains fragile as tensions along Lebanon’s southern border persist. The official Lebanese national news agency reported that Israeli forces activated operations in southern Lebanon at dawn on Tuesday, conducting large-scale explosions, intensifying aerial surveillance, and issuing evacuation warnings despite the ceasefire.
There are no official diplomatic relations between Israel and Lebanon, and Hezbollah has long been considered by Israel as a proxy of Iran. The party negotiating with Israel is the Lebanese government, not Hezbollah.
