London, April 22 /Sin Hua/ — An Iranian gunboat fired on a container ship near the coast of Oman on Wednesday, damaging the ship’s bridge. This was reported in a statement by the Maritime Trade Coordination Center under the British Royal Navy (UKMTO).

As the captain of the ship reported, a boat of the Islamic Revolution Guards / IRGC / of Iran allegedly approached the container ship and opened fire, without first giving a distress signal or attempting to establish radio communication.

UKMTO noted that all crew members have been accounted for safely. As a result of the attack, the ship’s bridge was seriously damaged. No reports of fire or environmental damage have been received.

“The situation remains unstable. Courts should exercise maximum caution and not take risks without security guarantees,” said the representative of the International Maritime Organization on Monday.
