Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova held the first meeting of the interdepartmental working group for coordinating the development and application of nuclear technologies in the field of medicine. The working group was established on the instructions of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The organizational and technical support for the working group’s activities has been assigned to the Kurchatov Institute.

“Nuclear medicine is one of the most dynamically developing and in-demand fields of modern healthcare. It opens new possibilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular, neurological, oncological, and a number of other diseases, which means it directly affects the lifespan and quality of life of our citizens. That is why special attention is given to the development of this field. The established interdepartmental working group is tasked with ensuring a systematic approach to the development of nuclear medicine—from the development and production of radiopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and equipment to the formulation of proposals for improving regulatory legal frameworks, industrial policies, and the advancement of fundamental and applied research and technologies. Our key objective is to make high-tech nuclear medicine accessible to citizens, strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty in this area, and ensure the sustainable development of the industry for years to come,” emphasized Tatyana Golikova.

Since 2025, nuclear medicine in Russia has been developing within the framework of the national project “New Technologies for Health Preservation.” To date, 93% of registered radiopharmaceutical medicinal products are produced in the country.

Radiological methods of diagnosis and treatment are actively being incorporated into clinical guidelines for the treatment of cardiovascular, oncological, endocrine, urological, and other diseases.

Special attention is paid to the creation of infrastructure: within the framework of the national project “Long and Active Life,” the purchase of equipment is carried out, including for SPECT, SPECT/CT, PET, PET/CT, as well as cyclotrons.

The working group session was attended by the Assistant to the President of Russia Andrey Fursenko, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Krasnikov, President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk, head of FMBA Veronika Skvortsova, head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, and others.

Following the meeting, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, FMBA, Roszdravnadzor, and other interested agencies have been instructed to submit proposals for improving the regulatory legal framework governing the circulation of produced and manufactured radiopharmaceuticals within the country. They have also been instructed to provide a list of acts that need to be amended to improve the regulation of the circulation of produced and manufactured radiopharmaceuticals.
