Among other things, there was talk about increasing the volume of domestic and international transportation, implementing social programs. Group projects were also discussed – preparation for the delivery of new domestic aircraft, import substitution of the aircraft maintenance and repair support system, creation of a unified production platform.
From the transcript:
M. Mishustin: Dear Sergey Vladimirovich!
You head the largest Russian airline. The “Aeroflot” brand is well known not only in our country but also worldwide. The foundation of this result is the most advanced technologies and standards. And of course, thousands of experienced specialists whom you have been able to unite to solve the most complex tasks.
As the President emphasized, a developed aviation industry is a significant condition for the connectivity of territories, transportation accessibility of remote regions, including in the Arctic, Siberia, and the Far East.
Tell us how the work is going this year, about the transportation results for the nine months and the summer period.
S. Aleksandrovskiy: Dear Mikhail Vladimirovich!
Sergey Aleksandrovsky, CEO of PJSC Aeroflot.
Despite all external restrictions, the Aeroflot Group maintains transportation volumes at the previous year’s level, develops its route network to friendly countries, as well as regional transportation within the Russian Federation.
In the first nine months, the Aeroflot group transported 42.2 million passengers, which corresponds to last year’s figures. Of these, 31.1 million passengers were transported on domestic routes – this is approximately 74% of our total passenger traffic. And 11.1 million – on international routes – which is, respectively, 26% of all our passenger traffic volumes.
“Aeroflot” continues to maintain its leading position in the market: taking into account foreign carriers, Aeroflot’s market share is 42.4% – meaning we have grown slightly compared to the previous period. Among Russian airlines, Aeroflot’s share is 53% – which is an increase of 2.2 percentage points from the previous year.
In addition, we maintain a record-high seat occupancy rate – it currently stands at 91.4%, which is 1.5% higher than the previous year’s level. Overall, this occupancy rate of Aeroflot is among the top for all international carriers.
What I would also like to note: we managed to keep the growth of tariffs on domestic transportation within 5.2% compared to last year – this is below the inflation level, despite the fact that a significant part of our expenses grew at an accelerated pace. We understand that ensuring the affordability of transportation for our citizens is one of the priorities.
In terms of developing transportation for privileged categories of passengers. At the end of 2024, a Presidential decree was issued to provide 50 percent discounts for children aged 2 to 12 years. Over nine months, a total of 1.8 million of our young passengers were transported with a 50 percent discount.
Aeroflot’s next social program is the flat-rate program: transportation to the Far East to nine cities. In nine months, 1.2 million passengers have been transported. This is 5.7% more than last year’s level. The program continues to demonstrate demand in terms of transportation to remote regions of our country. We will continue it.
In international transportation to friendly countries – Vietnam, China, India – there was a significant increase. The volume of shipments to Vietnam increased 3.7 times, to China by 55%, and to India by 32%. Cargo transportation also showed growth in these directions: for example, shipments to Vietnam increased by 77% in volume.
M. Mishustin: The most important evaluations of airlines are given by the passengers themselves. Especially when it comes to families with children. For them, of course, comfortable flying conditions on modern aircraft are very important.
And of course, despite sanctions and various restrictions, it is important to steadily expand the route network, including both interregional and key international destinations.
A significant renewal of the fleets of Russian carriers is planned in the coming years. We are working on this; it is constantly under the control of our President. And Aeroflot acted as the initial customer of new domestic aircraft. Recently, with the participation of the head of state, the company signed the largest contract – for the delivery of another 90 medium-haul MC-21 aircraft. How is the interaction with the aircraft manufacturer going?
S. Alexandrovsky: Yes, Mikhail Vladimirovich, indeed, in September we signed the largest contract in the country’s history. Before that, we signed a contract for 18 MC-21 aircraft, and now we have additionally signed for 90. In total, the combined number of aircraft to be delivered to the Aeroflot group from 2027 to 2032 will be 108 aircraft.
The contract is largely unique because it includes supply, leasing, and full maintenance, which will be provided by UAC and UEC. That is, both aircraft maintenance and engine maintenance, which will overall be aimed at the efficient development of this type and at improving its characteristics.
On its part, Aeroflot has fully prepared the program for the introduction of this type. In the spring of 2027, our personnel will begin undergoing all the necessary training for the commissioning of the new aircraft, because the first deliveries are expected in the period from September to December 2027.
I would especially like to note that we intend to continue increasing the volume of purchases of domestic airliners. We are ready to start working on the third contract, which is an additional 92 aircraft, to bring the total volume of ordered planes to 200 aircraft. This will undoubtedly ensure planned ordering for our industry and a steady production rhythm. We are confident that we will be well supplied with a fleet.
M. Mishustin: Russia is consistently strengthening its technological and industrial sovereignty by increasing production capacities for the creation of the most in-demand types of aircraft.
The next step is to take all necessary measures for the rapid adoption of new domestic equipment and to improve the efficiency of its operation. Air transport needs to act as cohesively as possible – together with scientific teams, developers, design bureaus, and industry representatives.
It is also important to actively implement proprietary industry digital solutions in all segments and business processes – here Aeroflot has a special role – so that airlines can rely on fully Russian information systems.
You head an industrial center of competence, responsible for a large number of tasks: the development of domestic software in various areas related to aviation. How is the implementation of such projects progressing?
S. Alexandrovsky: Indeed, Aeroflot heads an industrial center of competence in the field of aviation. Within this center, we implemented one of the very complex but important projects – the import substitution of the system for supporting aircraft maintenance and repair. Essentially, this is an international solution, the only one of this level in the world. Our task was to create the same one inside the Russian Federation, completely import-substituted.
We have completed this task. Aeroflot has already fully switched to a new domestic solution in August of this year, which was developed jointly with the state corporation Rostec.
In my opinion, an absolutely unique product. We already have plans for its further development. And in 2027, it is planned to start rolling it out across the industry – meaning that other airlines will also begin transitioning to this domestic software product “Kupol.”
In addition, one of our large and complex projects is the replacement of the ERP system.
M. Mishustin: What do you use?
S.Aleksandrovskiy: We plan to switch to “1C.” We have been working on this project for several years now, and I can say that in January 2027, with the transition to the new financial period, we will begin extensive replacement of the current ERP system.
M. Mishustin: Already in industrial use?
S. Alexandrovsky: Yes, it is already in full industrial operation. We are in very close contact with our colleagues. It took considerable effort to implement this replacement for Aeroflot – with such an amount of system integration within the company. Indeed, a very complex and large-scale project; I believe it is one of the most challenging projects that 1C has undertaken. We have now reached the final stage and will be ready to report on the implementation results next year.
There are also several other projects we are implementing. This is a unified production platform – we transitioned to industrial operation in October. This includes route network planning, daily schedules, and working with transit passengers. In other words, a comprehensive integrated production solution. All the metrics we set for ourselves show significant improvement compared to the foreign products we worked with before.
M. Mishustin: Sergey Vladimirovich, it is very important to continue doing everything to ensure reliable, safe air communications between our regions and with friendly countries, and, of course, taking into account the needs of the people.
