The meeting took place during the visit of the Premier of the State Council of the PRC, Li Qiang, to Russia.
From the transcript:
M. Mishustin: Dear Mr. Li Qiang! Dear colleagues!
I would like to sincerely welcome all Chinese colleagues and friends to hospitable Saint Petersburg at the regular, now the 31st, meeting of the heads of governments of Russia and China.
Thanks to intensive high-level dialogue between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, our bilateral relations are actively developing in the spirit of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction. The Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, whose 25th anniversary we celebrated this year, serves as the fundamental guideline.
China is among Russia’s key foreign economic partners.
Mutual trade is confidently growing, and settlements are conducted mainly in rubles and yuan.
The volumes of bilateral investments are steadily increasing. The portfolio of the specialized commission already includes over 90 projects in a wide range of areas – from metallurgy to agriculture.
We expect their number to increase further, including through the implementation of the updated Agreement on Encouragement and Protection of Investments between Russia and China. It was signed last year and creates the most favorable conditions for doing business and investing.
We interact across a whole range of areas.
Russia firmly holds the lead in oil and natural gas exports to China.
The Power of Siberia gas pipeline operates stably. Construction of the Far Eastern route is underway. A project for the creation of the Power of Baikal pipeline is being developed. It could become one of the largest gas arteries in Eurasia.
Joint initiatives in peaceful nuclear energy are also progressing, including the construction of power units using Russian technology at Chinese nuclear power plants.
We will continue to reliably ensure uninterrupted supplies of energy resources and are generally ready to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.
To be continued…
