Antalya /Turkey/, April 19 /Xin Hua/ — Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday expressed optimism regarding the prospects of extending the ceasefire regime between the USA and Iran amid continuing diplomatic efforts following the unsuccessful first round of negotiations, which did not lead to an agreement.
Speaking at the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomatic Forum in southern Turkey, H. Fidan noted that Ankara is closely monitoring the course of negotiations and believes that Washington, like Tehran, is demonstrating readiness for more serious negotiations after the first round in Islamabad ended without results.
“There should be no problems with extending the ceasefire, as this will provide time to seek diplomatic solutions,” the Turkish diplomat told journalists.
“Everyone expresses their concern to us about the resumption of the war,” H. Fidan noted. “No one wants the war to resume, so both sides expect that they will extend the ceasefire.” –0–
