Tehran, April 19 /Xinhua/ — According to the Iranian semi-official news agency Tasnim, Iran’s armed forces on Sunday seized two more oil tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The situation regarding access to this strategic waterway remains tense.

The message notes that vessels flying the flags of Botswana and Angola attempted to “illegally” pass through the strait, but were forced to turn back after Iranian intervention.

Meanwhile, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Esmail Baghaei, rejected the calls of European countries to ensure unobstructed and duty-free passage of ships through the strait, reproaching the European Union for the fact that its practice of applying norms of international law is “the height of hypocrisy.” –0–
