Moscow, April 17 /Xin Hua/ — The US decision to impose a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz contradicts international law norms and this measure should be considered exclusively as unilateral and unlawful. This was stated on Thursday at a briefing by the representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.
“This is another free interpretation by Washington of the international legal framework, which only contributes to the further escalation of the conflict and, naturally, leads to corresponding economic consequences,” noted the Russian diplomat.
At the same time, M. Zaharova emphasized that the unlawful nature of the US actions in the case of blocking the Strait of Hormuz does not mean that Washington can now act in a “legal vacuum.” The diplomat reminded about the obligation of the parties to the conflict to observe the norms of international humanitarian law. –0–
