Moscow Exchange has joined the National ESG Alliance – a union of leading Russian companies systematically working on the sustainable development agenda. The Alliance consolidates companies from various sectors of the Russian economy, each possessing its own practice of managing long-term risks, social and environmental factors, territorial development, and human capital.
The Moscow Exchange Group is consistently developing a sustainable finance infrastructure, which today includes organizing exchange commodity auctions with decarbonization instruments: carbon units, quota fulfillment units, and electricity origin certificates. The Exchange calculates sustainability indices, supports and develops educational programs for issuers and investors in the implementation of best ESG practices.
The sustainable development sector of the Moscow Exchange unites instruments aimed at financing environmental, social, national, and adaptation projects. Today, the sector has 47 bond issues with a total volume of 604 billion rubles outstanding. The volume of bond placements in the sector amounted to 139 billion rubles in the first nine months of 2026.
Viktor Zhidkov, Chairman of the Moscow Exchange Board:
“Sustainable development is an integral part of the Moscow Exchange’s work both as an issuer and as a trading organizer, so joining the National ESG Alliance is a natural step for us. Thanks to this, the long-standing partnership with the Alliance will reach a new level: the accumulated experience within the Moscow Exchange Group and the financial sector will strengthen both our initiatives and the Alliance’s agenda. We are confident that working together will allow us to more effectively scale existing ESG projects and create new solutions for the market.”
Andrey Sharonov, General Director of the National ESG Alliance:
“We proceed from the assumption that sustainability is not a separate area of corporate activity, but a fundamental characteristic of the quality of companies and economic institutions: their ability to withstand external impacts, adapt to changes, make decisions taking into account long-term consequences, and preserve development potential.
The alliance already unites the expertise of the largest companies from various industries. The inclusion of the Moscow Exchange adds a systemic financial segment to this expertise. The financial market is of overarching importance to the entire economy: through risk assessment, governance quality, and long-term prospects, it influences investment priorities and capital raising conditions.
Moscow Exchange is the largest Russian exchange and the only multifunctional platform in Russia for trading stocks, bonds, derivatives, currencies, money market instruments, and commodities. The Moscow Exchange Group includes the central depository as well as a clearing center, which acts as a central counterparty in the markets, enabling Moscow Exchange to provide clients with a full cycle of trading and post-trading services.
The National Alliance for Sustainable Development is a leading business association in Russia dedicated exclusively to the sustainable development agenda, bringing together companies that have already integrated these principles into their business models or are consciously embarking on this path. Today, it includes 22 founding members who are leaders of sustainable transition in their industries: manufacturing, finance, retail, pharmaceuticals, and others.
