Beijing, September 16 /Xinhua/ — Member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that the continuation of the protracted conflict between the US and Iran does not serve the common interests of either the parties involved or the international community.
China calls on Iran and the United States to maintain a rational approach and show restraint in order to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding as soon as possible, restructure the negotiation mechanism in accordance with the agreements reached so far, and hold substantive consultations on issues of mutual interest, Wang Yi said.
China advocates for dialogue between Iran and other Persian Gulf countries, supports them in respecting each other’s territorial sovereignty and national security, and in constructively protecting the common interests of the region, said Wang Yi.
Van I called on all parties to take effective measures for the prompt opening of the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring unobstructed and safe navigation along international sea routes, as well as maintaining the stability of international energy transportation and production-supply chains.
