Tehran, April 13 /Xin Hua/ — The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated on Sunday that the only way for the United States to get out of the current situation is to make a decision and earn the trust of the Iranian people.

He made this statement in an address to journalists when leaving Pakistan, where he, together with his accompanying team, took part in peace talks with the American delegation.

“The United States is indebted to the Iranian people and must diligently work to make amends for the damage,” said M. B. Ghalibaf.

“If they fight, we will fight; and if they show logic, we will respond with logic. We will not give in to any threats,” he added. “They may test our will once again, and we will teach them an even harsher lesson.”

M. B. Galibaf characterized the negotiations with the American delegation in Islamabad as very “intensive, serious, and complex,” stating that, thanks to the participation of competent experts possessing a comprehensive and multifaceted vision, the Iranian delegation developed “advanced initiatives” to demonstrate the country’s goodwill, “which led to progress in the negotiations.”

“From the very beginning, we stated that we do not trust the Americans. Our wall of distrust dates back 77 years. In less than 12 months, they attacked us twice at the negotiating table. Thus, it is precisely they who must earn our trust,” he emphasized.

M. B. Qalibaf rejected the recent threats of U.S. President Donald Trump to Iran, stating that such threats have no impact on the Iranian people.

Delegations of Iran and the USA held lengthy negotiations in Islamabad on Saturday and early Sunday, which did not lead to an agreement. Earlier, on Wednesday, a ceasefire between Iran, the USA, and Israel was announced after 40 days of hostilities. –0–
