London, April 13 /Sin Hua/ — US signals about possible military actions, including measures to intercept and blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, after the failure of negotiations between the US and Iran in Pakistan, are increasing instability in the maritime sphere, the analytical company Windward, headquartered in London, reported on Sunday.
According to the report published by Windward, Washington’s actions introduce a second level of control over the strait, which means that the movement of vessels may be influenced not only by Iranian restrictions but also by potential actions by the USA.
The Hormuz Strait functions as a “controlled and unstable” system, where the risk of direct conflict between state actors is increasing, the company report says.
Data showed that on Saturday the spill crossed a total of 17 vessels.
Although transit volumes have increased slightly, vessel traffic activity remains limited, the report says, adding that some ships have changed routes or turned back, while the total number of vessels in the Persian Gulf continues to decline.
Iran’s export operations remain active under constrained conditions. Satellite images taken on Saturday show that three very large crude oil tankers are being loaded on Iran’s Kharg Island, with a total volume estimated at about 6 million barrels. The most recent confirmed shipments were recorded on April 8. –0–
