Attendance at city swimming pools, sports, and physical fitness and wellness complexes in Moscow has increased almost fivefold over four years. In 2022, at the facilities assigned to State Budgetary Institution “MosSportObject”, recorded 2.7 million visits, and in 2025 — over 6.7 million, with more than seven million visits expected in 2026.

The growth of interest in an active lifestyle is supported by the development of urban infrastructure and the creation of comfortable conditions for training. This is one of the key tasks Moscow sports development strategies until 2030.

Swimming is especially popular among Muscovites — more than 580 thousand people engage in it. Over nine thousand people receive sports training within the Moscomsport system based at 14 institutions.

Sports infrastructure upgrade

Over the past three years, the capital has renovated three sports complexes with swimming pools — “Marino,” “Olympia,” and “Formula of Water.”

The buildings underwent a major renovation of the facades and interiors. Ceramic and non-slip tiles were used to finish the walls and floors of the pools; handrails, door blocks, and suspended ceilings were replaced. The changing rooms, showers, and other premises were decorated in the official style of Moscow sports. Furniture, cabinets, mirrors, and various decor in a unified style were selected for them.

The facilities have been equipped with modern equipment, including electronic scoreboard displays, electrically powered lifts, and starting blocks. Equipment was also purchased: noodles, kickboards, arm floats, and fins.

Each complex offers different training opportunities. For example, the 25-meter pool “Maryino” in the southeast of the capital teaches swimming and helps adults improve their technique. Health-improving workouts and aqua aerobics classes are also held here. Programs are designed for visitors with different skill levels.

In “Olimpia” in the east of Moscow, there is a 25-meter swimming pool and a gym with modern injury-safe flooring and the necessary equipment. In the same district, there is the multifunctional complex “Water Formula.” It has two pools — a 50-meter swimming pool and a 25-meter diving pool, where competitions of the highest level can be held.

In 2024, a physical culture and wellness complex called “Ramenki” was also built in the west of the capital. The four-story building was constructed according to an individual design. The facades are finished with white lamellae and stained-glass glazing.
