Moscow is expanding its network of ground transportation routes and purchasing even more environmentally friendly vehicles. In the first half of 2026, 32 new electric bus routes were launched in Moscow. This was announced on his channel in in the messenger “Max” Sergey Sobyanin reported.
“We have received 43 new generation electric buses with a charging system that reduces the weight of the electric bus, making it more reliable and technologically advanced,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.

This decision allows for reducing the weight of the machines, as well as increasing their reliability and manufacturability.
The new cars also have other advantages: the middle and rear doors do not take up space inside the cabin when opened, there are places for hand luggage and door lighting, the accumulation area for personal mobility devices has been increased by 15 percent, and a more efficient and comfortable climate system has been installed.
Moscow ranks first in Europe in the number of electric buses. More than 3,100 eco-friendly vehicles operate in the capital, accounting for 52 percent of the entire Mosgortrans fleet. On weekdays, passengers make over 1.2 million trips on electric buses. On September 1, 2026, the Moscow electric bus will turn eight years old.
New ground transportation routes
The network of Moscow’s surface urban transport routes is continuously updated, adapting to the development of the rail framework and becoming even more convenient for passengers. In the first half of 2026, the routes of 45 lines were changed and four new routes were opened.
In particular, the routes of the MCC and MCC1 to the Migration Center have changed. They now pass through the Ostafyevo station of the second Moscow Central Diameter. Thanks to this, the travel time to the city center has been reduced by an average of five minutes for 3,900 passengers daily.
Great attention is being paid to improving the transportation services for medical institutions. For example, after analyzing the transport accessibility of the new complex of Oncology Hospital No. 62 and the outpatient oncology care center in Skolkovo, three new routes were organized.
Work continues to improve transport services for new residential complexes, including those under construction as part of the renovation program. From 2026, convenient access to rail framework stations and social facilities was provided for 84 thousand residents of the new buildings. The new route No. 907 ensured a connection to the Butovskaya metro line for 12.8 thousand Muscovites from the Ostafyevo residential complex.

“By the end of 2026, we plan to launch a new project — the development of a route network for surface transport in small settlements of TiNAO. The first eight routes will connect remote settlements with rail frame stations and major highways, where it will be possible to make a free transfer to other surface transport routes,” said Sergey Sobyanin.

The purchase of 40 modern small-class buses has been announced for the operation of new routes. They will be able to navigate through small streets within settlements, allowing the launch of public transport without significant changes to the road infrastructure.
Night routes
Moscow’s night routes have turned 13 years old. They first started operating on August 30, 2013. During this time, passengers have made around 15 million trips. Today, the night network includes 18 routes, two of which operate around the clock. Approximately 3,400 trips are made every night.
The routes connect about 100 districts from almost all administrative areas of the capital to the center, and also provide access to all the city’s train stations as well as Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports. The highest demand for night transport occurs in the early morning — roughly from 4:00 to 5:00 AM. At this time, it is especially in demand among those who start their working day at 5:00–6:00 AM, as well as passengers working night shifts. In summer, demand also increases due to evening strolls, cultural events, and meetings with friends.
Most routes converge at the Kitay-gorod metro station, where you can transfer to another night route for free. To do this, the Troika card must be registered in the “Moscow Metro” or “Moscow Transport” app.
Another important stage in the development of the night network is the transition to electric buses. In August, route N2 on Kutuzovsky Prospekt was already switched to them. On August 29, electric buses began operating on N15, and in September they will be introduced on N14. After that, more than half of Moscow’s night routes will be served by environmentally friendly electric buses of Russian manufacture.
Today, more than 130 modern buses and electric buses operate on night routes. The Mosgortrans fleet includes over 2,400 KamAZ electric buses and about 570 LiAZ buses. Their production supports domestic industry: equipment for the capital is created by Russian enterprises taking into account the city’s requirements for safety, comfort, and quality.
