Beijing, August 11 /Xinhua/ — China urges the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Forum /PIF/ to adhere to the One-China principle and properly handle issues related to Taiwan, said Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs official spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Tuesday.
The correspondent referred to a statement from one of the WTO representatives that Taiwan will participate in the annual leaders’ meeting, which this year will take place in Palau from August 30 to September 4. Last year, the Taiwan region was excluded from participating in the meeting organized by the Solomon Islands following protests from China.
Go Jiakun noted that with regard to the participation of the Chinese region of Taiwan in the activities of international organizations, China’s position remains consistent and clear – this issue should be resolved in accordance with the One-China principle, which is one of the fundamental norms of international relations and a widely recognized consensus of the international community, enshrined in UN General Assembly Resolution 2758.
