Beijing, August 11 /Xinhua/ — The penetration rate of new energy vehicles (NEV), which is a key indicator of popularity, reached a new record of 65.1 percent of the total retail sales of passenger cars in July, an industry survey reported on Tuesday.

According to the data published by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), this indicator increased by 11.6 percentage points year-on-year and by 2.1 percentage points month-on-month.

According to data, in July the penetration rate of NEV vehicles in retail sales among Chinese brands reached 83.8%, while for luxury class cars this figure was 30.9%.

Retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles amounted to 951 thousand units in July, declining by 3.9% year-on-year and by 5.8% month-on-month.

Passenger car production using new energy sources reached 1.45 million units in July, increasing by 25.6 percent year-on-year. The total production volume for January-July reached 8.21 million units, increasing by 7.9 percent year-on-year. -0-
