Tbilisi, July 29 /Xinhua/ — The National Bank of Georgia (Central Bank), at the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, maintained the monetary policy rate at 8.25 percent. This was reported on Wednesday by the Central Bank.

The agency noted that the decision was made taking into account the current macroeconomic situation, updated forecasts, and assessment of existing risks. According to the regulator, annual inflation in the country was 5.8 percent in June 2026. The main reason for exceeding the target is the rise in energy prices.

According to the updated baseline forecast of the Central Bank, the average inflation in the country in 2026 is expected to be at 5.2 percent and return to the target level of 3 percent in the medium term.

The regulator also reported the continuation of stable economic activity. The economic growth forecast for 2026 remains at 6.5 percent. –0–
