Beijing, July 29 /Xinhua/ – The Ministry of Water Resources of China on Wednesday activated a level 4 emergency flood response in Sichuan Province /Southwest China/.
As noted by the agency, from July 30 to August 3, heavy rains and downpours are expected in places in the central and southeastern regions of this province, which may lead to a significant rise in water levels in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and its tributaries, including the Minjiang, Tuojiang, and Jialingjiang rivers.
On certain small and medium rivers in the specified areas, fairly strong floods are possible, with a high risk of sudden flash floods.
The Ministry of Water Resources has demanded that relevant local authorities strengthen monitoring and forecasting of rainfall and hydrological conditions, tighten controls on reservoir safety, and increase patrolling and inspections to promptly identify and eliminate risks and prevent dam breaches.
