Qingdao, July 13 /Xinhua/ — On Monday, the China-Russia joint naval exercises “Maritime Interaction-2026” concluded in Qingdao, Shandong Province, eastern China. Some servicemen from both sides departed for the corresponding area of the Pacific Ocean to carry out joint maritime patrols.
In the exercises aimed at joint response to maritime security threats, 10 ships of various types participated from both sides, including surface, submarine and air forces, as well as support forces.
During the exercises, ship commanders and staff officers from both sides conducted planning of the naval phase of the exercises on maps, while sailors participated in professional exchanges, ship visits, sports, and cultural events. Then, during the maritime phase of the exercise, the participants practiced joint reconnaissance and air defense actions, strikes on naval targets, as well as coordinated search and rescue operations for the crew of a conditionally distressed submarine.
“One of the most striking features of the joint exercises was that throughout the entire time they were as close as possible to real conditions of conducting combat operations at sea and in the air, and focused on combat practice. Thanks to these exercises, the armed forces of the two countries have further strengthened strategic mutual trust, deepened traditional friendship, and increased the level of joint response to maritime crises,” shared the exercise leader from the Chinese side.
Since 2012, China and Russia have conducted the joint naval exercises “Maritime Interaction” 12 times, reminded Zheng Hong, a researcher at the PLA Naval Research Institute, adding that they have become an important platform for deepening cooperation and joint development of the naval forces of the two countries, which has significant practical importance for maintaining peace and stability in the region. -0-
